How to Find the Tire Size You Need
The key to finding out the important details about your tires is located right on their sidewalls. Typically, your tire size information will begin with a letter. In the US, this will most often be "P" for passenger vehicles. "LT" tires are designed for light trucks.
Your tire's width is measured in millimeters from sidewall to sidewall. The first 3-digit number in the tire size gives you that information. The aspect ratio of your tire is the ratio of the height of the tire's cross-section to its width. This can be found as a 2-digit number after a slash (/) in your tire size.
Next, you'll see another letter which lets you know the type of construction your tire has. For example, "R" stands for Radial. Following that letter, you'll find another number which tells us your wheel diameter.
This is the key information you'll need to know when searching for new tires on your own. Your tires will also list important reference information such as their load index, speed rating, DOT symbol, tire identification number and uniform tire quality grading information.
